Overall, cars are by far the most popular mode of transport among young people in all four countries. By contrast, preferences for bicycles and motorcycles vary considerably, with cycling reaching its highest proportion in France, while motorcycles remain the least favoured option overall.
In the UK and the United States, cars are equally dominant, accounting for 60% of preferences in both countries. In the UK, bicycles are chosen by 30% of young people, compared with just 10% in the United States. By contrast, motorcycle preference is significantly higher in the United States at 30%, whereas only 10% of British youth favour this mode of transport.
Turning to Italy and France, cars remain the dominant choice in Italy, representing roughly 75% of preferences, whereas the corresponding figure for France is significantly lower at around 40%. As for bicycles, France records the highest proportion among the four countries, at approximately 45%. In comparison, motorcycles account for just over 10% in France, a percentage that is almost identical to Italy’s figure.
