Overall, the funding received by China gradually decreased throughout the period but fluctuated in India. Despite this, the total expenditure received by China was higher than India.
In 2014, the Chinese economy received just under $80 billion, which declined to around $60 billion in 2015 and 2016. After slightly fell in 2017, it reached a peak of more than $100 billion in 2018 before receding to approximately $45 billion in the end of the period.
Foreign outlays into India’s economy gained just above $20 billion in the beginning of the period, then rose dramatically to around $60 billion in 2015 and 2016 before falling back to the same level of 2014 in 2017. In 2018, there was another substantial increase to approximately $50 billion, though it ended the period with the same amount as in 2014. 2015 became the only year when India exceeded China’s level of foreign direct investment, with slightly over $60 billion and slightly under $60 billion, respectively.
