Both China and India accounted for a large proportion of the total world population. China hit a peak of the population and India at approximately 15%, which was the second highest country in 1950. Then China and India had a quite similar with about 20% and 17% in 2002. Finally, India is predicted to rise from 17% to 19% and become the highest percentage of the global population, while China is projected to fall to about 15% by 2050.
In contrast, USA and Japan make up a small share of the global population and they have a downward trend in the same period time. In 1950, the USA reached about 7%, while Japan reached around 4%. However, the figure of the USA went down about 5% in 2002 and is predicted to maintain the same level in 2050. Meanwhile, Japan also dropped about 3% in 2002, which had a half of the percentage of USA in 2002 and projections in 2050. Additionally, the figure of Japan is projected to hit a bottom of the total population with about 2%, leading to the lowest percentage by 2050.
