The bar chart shows the percentages of the UK workforce in five major industries in the year 1841 and 2011. The overall trend is clearly transformed in the distribution of the workforce across these sectors.
The most notable changes include the decline in the workforce in agriculture, fishing, and manufacturing and a substantial increase in the services sector.
Looking at the graph more closely, one can see that the portions of manufacturing and agriculture, fishing were dominant industries in 1841, with 36% and 22% respectively. Nevertheless, the percentages of these sectors were significantly decreased in 2011, with 9% and 1% respectively. Turning next to the services sector, a sharp contrast can be seen between 1841 and 2011. Whereas the workforce in the year 1841 just 33% operated from that sector, the percentages of this sector dramatically increased up to 81% in 2011.
