The bar chart above illustrates the distribution of the workforce in the UK across five major industries from 1841 to 2011.
Overall, it can be seen that the proportion of worker distributed to manufacturing and services were highest in 1841. In contrast, the percentages of personnel allocated to Energy/Water and Construction were lowest.
We can see that, in 1841, the labor force of Manufacturing had started off at 36%, just slightly 3% higher than Services. However, in 2011, the figure had drastically dropped to 9%. on the other hand, the worker of Services greatly elevated to 81% at the end of the given period ,took the highest place. Another industry also witnessed a huge change after 170-years was Agriculture/Fishing with 22% at the beginning and decreased almost to zero at the end.
Regarding the less fluctuated figures, the ratio of personnel in Construction and Energy/ Water were only at 5% and 3% respectively in 1841. After 170-years, the number of manpower contributed to Construction was increased by 3%. Similar to Agriculture/Fishing, Energy/water also hit the bottom at in 2011.
