Overall, In 1993 majority of the rural areas had higher percentage of poverty when compared to 2002 except Europe and Central Asia where they had higher percentage of poverty in 2002. With a greater majority rural area had maximum poverty fraction when compared to urban area in 2002.
East Asia and Pacific had the maximum poverty percentage in both years (about 100%) when compared to rest of the rural areas. In other rural areas, 1993 had slight greater fraction of poverty than 2002 (Middle East & North America, South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa had difference under 5%) excluding Europe and Central Asia whose 2002 poverty fraction (about 70%) was significantly greater than 1993 (above 50%).
Latin America and Caribbean had the least poverty fraction in the years 1993(about 50%) and 2002(40%). In 2002, poverty percentage of rural areas had predominant majority of 76% over urban areas (24%).
