The bar chart illustrates the proportion of male and female academic staff members who chose different subjects, including Arts, Astronomy, History, Engineering, Law, Medicine, and Science.
At first glance, it is evident that Engineering was the most preferred subject among males, while it was the least chosen by females. Conversely, females dominated in Arts and History, whereas men showed greater interest in technical and scientific fields.
Looking at the data in more detail, the highest proportion of female staff was observed in Arts (around 55%) and History (about 70%), compared to 40% and 30% of males respectively. In contrast, Astronomy, Law, and Science attracted more male academics, with male percentages noticeably higher than females in these areas.
Furthermore, the proportion of males and females in Medicine was almost equal, standing at roughly 50% each. However, Engineering had the largest gender gap, as nearly 80% of male staff worked in this field compared to only 10% of females.
