The bar graph compares the median income per year of doctors and those in other professions among various nations in the year 2004.
What is most striking when looking at the chart was the clear dominance of doctors in terms of annual wage, ranging from two to three times that of others, who were paid around the same level. Additionally, the US boasted the highest yearly doctor salary while also showing the largest pay gap.
Looking first at countries where doctors earned 100 thousand or more annually, the United States led the pack, with their physicians earning around 145 thousand a year, which was over 100 thousand more than that of other professions, representing the biggest gap in pay across the board. Workers of different fields in Switzerland were paid the same as those in the US, at around 43 thousand; however, their doctors were compensated less at just under 110 thousand. Germany and Canada also rewarded their doctors heftily, at round 113 and 105 thousand, respectively, while paying the same amount for their other workers at 30 thousand.
Turning to the remaining nations, France paid its doctors around 85 thousand per year, which was more than double the wage of its other workers. Similarly, despite exhibiting the lowest salary levels, the Czech Republic still had their doctors paid more than twice the amount allotted to those in different sectors (40 thousand compared to around 18 thousand). Only in Finland was the yearly wage gap between medical workers and others less than twofold, with the former getting paid roughly 55 thousand and the latter 30 thousand.
