The bar chart shows the numbers of animals adopted from an animal rescue center in Madison between 1990 and 2000. Overall, dogs were the most adopted animals at the beginning of the period, but this figure declined gradually over time. In contrast, cat adoptions showed an opposite trend, increasing steadily and eventually becoming the highest.
The number of dogs adopted was highest in 1990, at about 570, which was roughly five times the figure for birds and reptiles, at around 100. After two years, both figures decreased to approximately 480 and 90 respectively. In 1994, however, the number of birds and reptiles experienced a slight increase to about 100 and then remained relatively stable until the end of the period. Meanwhile, dog adoptions continued to fall, reaching around 400 in 2000.
By contrast, the number of adopted cats followed an upward trend. Starting as the second-highest figure at just over 300 in 1990, cat adoptions increased consistently throughout the period. By 2000, this number had risen to approximately 650, making cats the most commonly adopted animals over the ten-year period. band this’
