It is clear that people spent a significant portion of their income for food in 1968, while spending on leisure increased significantly and hold the top position in 2018. Besides, Housing and transport expenditure also increased and consumed a noticeable portion of their earning in of that period. Meanwhile, spending on other sectors not experienced significant changes.
In 1968, 30% of weekly income was used for ensuring food, while the figure was considerably low in 2018, just around 17%. However, the expenditure on Leisure activities remained in top position, around 22% of their income, whereas spending on leisure was just below 10% in 2018. Meanwhile, spending on housing increased from 10% in 1968 to about 19% in 2018. In addition, transport spending also increased substantially, it jumped from around 7% to roughly 14%, indicating cost increased almost double. In contrary, spending on personal goods, and clothing and footwear decreased almost 4% and 4% respectively. Interesting, expenditure on household goods not experienced significant changed in both years, the figures remained almost same just only 7%, demonstrating the budget for it not significantly high.
