The bar chart illustrates the sales of five major phone brands worldwide between 2009 and 2013. Overall, there were increases in the sales of Samsung and Apple, while the opposite was true for those of Nokia, LG and ZTE. Additionally, in the first year, Nokia recorded the highest revenue, but this was the case for Samsung in the final year, while ZTE was by far the least bought over the period.
Regarding manufacturers with the highest figures, in 2009, Nokia dominated the market with 440 million units being sold, nearly twice Samsung’s sales (230 million), which was the second most popular brand in that year. Conversely, in 2013, Samsung sold 450 million units, surpassing Nokia’s figure (250 million), becoming the best seller, while Nokia was the second.
Concerning other companies, roughly 120 million LG phones were sold in 2009, followed by a gradual decline of 40 million in 2013. In contrast, Apple’s sales saw the greatest growth, from the lowest at around 20 million devices initially to 150 million finally, to become the third most favoured brand. Meanwhile, ZTE saw a minor incline over the period and was the least preferred brand from 2011 onwards, from approximately 50 million units in the first year to just over this level in the final year.
