The chart illustrates changes in the rate of burglary, car theft, and robbery in Newport city center between 2003 and 2012.
In general, the burglary is the highest committed crime in 2003 and the second most committed crime in 2012, while the rate of car theft is the second highest in 2003 and the highest in 2012. Although, the changes can be seen in both burglary and car theft, but the number of incidents of robbery remained the same throughout the period from 2003 and 2012.
In 2003, the highest number of incidents is made by burglary which is 3400 incidents, and it increased to about 3700 in 2004. However, the rate of burglary significantly decreased to the low of around 1200, and remained steady until 2012.
On the other hand, the second most committed crime is car theft which is 2700 incidents, and it remained constant until 2005, which then declined to 2100 in 2006, and steadily rose to 2800 in 2012 which account for the majority number of incidents. While, robbery rate started at about 700 and it remained the same for the whole period.
