The chart illustrates information about what percentages the UK citizens spend on three categories – Food and drink, Restaurant and Hotel, Entertainment – in 2004.
Overall, the expenditure for Food and drink rose gradually throughout the given five age groups. The spending rates on Restaurant and Hotel declined from under 30 to the 61-75 age group, with an outlier of the 76+ group, while the consumption rate on Entertainment rose as the groups aged.
Surprisingly, the youngest group allocated the least amount (around 6 % ) of their money on Food and drink, but the most for Restaurant and Hotel, more than twice the former. In contrast, the oldest people spent significantly more on Food and drink, three times more than under 30s, while letting the least amount of their money (7%) go to restaurants and hotels, with a double negative difference with the youngsters.
As expected, the rate for Entertainment increased as the groups aged, from 6 % for under 30 to the peak of 23 % for the 62-75 age group, exceptionally a decline for the oldest group at around 13 %.
