The bar charts compares the participation rates of the teenage boys and girls in four different types of favourite leisure activities within a single month in Canada.
Overall, young men showed a stronger preference for most exercise with the exception being music, which showed a contrasting trend. The most striking difference between the two genders was observed in shopping while girls dominated the participants more in music.
In terms of shopping engagement, this category recorded the highest level of boys involvement with approximately 35% of the genders segment participating while it was the least popular choice among girls, accounting for only about 7%. Sports followed a similar pattern, as the figure for boys was significantly higher than that of girls, with about 27% and 12% respectively.
A contrasting trend was observed in the category of music, where the percentage of boys and girls choosing music as their favourite leisure activity was almost identical, at approximately 20%. While computer games was also more popular for boys, the young men rate reached roughly 20% which was about 5% higher than the figure for girls
