The chart presents data on the main reasons for agricultural land degradation in three continents, namely North America, Europe and Oceania.
In North America, for instance, the greatest issues are over-cultivation and over-grazing, which affect, respectively, around 3% and 2% of the land. Other causes are minimally present, making the North American land the least degraded one.
Europe, on the other hand, is heavily harmed by deforestation, which was reported in almost 10% of the agricultural area. Additionally, other problems are almost as recurrent. As a result, the European continent faces the largest decrease in agricultural land productivity.
Differently from its counterparts, Oceania has a clearly prominent issue: just under 12% of its land deals with over-grazing, whereas approximately 2% is affected by deforestation and other causes.
Finally, it is worth noting that over-grazed soil is the most significant factor for reduced land productivity across the three continents as well.
