The chart compares proportion of four major contributors for lower crop yeilds in farmable lands in three different continents of the world.
Overall, European nations witnessed highest land degradation, when compared with other regions. Over-grazing remains the primary cause of barrening of cultivable land, whereas it has lesser effect on other places. However, over-cultivation is not reported in Oceania.
Notably, European lands suffered mostly from deforestation, which is slighly lower than 10%, and is almost half of that when compared with overgrazing. Although, over-cultivation and other reasons share nearly equal percentage of their contribution.
Meanwhile, in North America, over-cultivation remains the top-most reason for lands getting degraded at almost 3%, which is roughly double than that from over-grazing. Deforestation and other causes exhibited similar proportion for degrading. Similarly, in Oceania, over-grazing caused most of it’s area becoming unproductive, which was about 12%. It was reported six time greater, while comparing that with deforestation.
