The chart provides information about the main reasons, over-grazing, deforestation, over-cultivation, and other reasons, why agricultural land becomes less productive in North America, Europe, and Oceania.
Overall, all reasons affect each region to a different level. North America and Oceania have relatively smaller percentage of degredated lands than Europe does.
Over-grazing causes over 10% degraded land in Oceania, and just under 6% in Europe. Around 2% of the land in North America faces the same problem. Deforestation is Europe’s largest cause for degradation, as it effects about 10% of the lands, whereas it’s the least significant issue in North America with only around 1% degraded land.
In Oceania, no land becomes less productive because of over-cultivation. In contrast, in Europe and North America approximately 8% and 3% of land is degraded because of it, respectively. Other reasons affect Europe the most with around 7% and around 1% for both North America and Oceania.
