The bar chart illustrates the number of British people (in thousands) divided by gender, attending full-time or part time further education in 1970/71, 1980/81 and 1990/91.
Overall, more men attended further education than women, even though the number of women increased significantly over the given period. Moreover, the preference of both sexes for full-time education has risen over the years.
Regarding part-time further education, 1000 thousand males attended in 1970/71, while the following years this figure dropped, ending at approximately 900 thousand in 1990/91. On contrast, women in 1970/71 had just under 800 thousand attendees, increasing dramatically to around 1100 thousand by 1990/91.
In terms of full-time further education, a similar trend is witnessed for both genders, where the number of students more than doubled for men and quadrupled for women. In 1970/71 about 100 thousand men were in further education, whereas about half of that figure was true for women. From this point onwards, the number of students experienced considerable growth for both sexes, reaching more than 200 thousand for both men and women.
