The bar chart compares the numbers of men and women who attended four different evening courses at an adult education centre in 2009, while the pie chart illustrates the age distribution of these participants.
Overall, women took part in the courses more actively than men, especially in language and painting classes. In addition, the majority of learners were aged 40 and above, whereas people under 20 formed the smallest group.
Looking first at the bar chart, language courses were the most popular, with 40 women attending compared to only 20 men. Painting was also well attended, attracting 30 women and 25 men. In contrast, sculpture was the least popular course overall, particularly among women, with only 5 female participants compared to 10 men. Drama classes showed a moderate difference, as 20 women enrolled, double the number of men.
Turning to the pie chart, the largest proportion of participants were aged 50 or over, accounting for 42% of the total. This was followed by those aged 40-49 at 26%. Younger adults aged 30-39 made up 16%, while the 20-29 group represented 11%. Only 5% of participants were under 20 years old.
