The bar chart below illustrates the quantity of students who applied for a particular European university from four countries, namely China, Japan, America and Russia from 2004 to 2008.
As can be seen from the chart, there was an upward trend in most of the nations, only China saw a contrast. At the beginning, the highest number of students belonged to Chinese, but it was overtaken by the figures from Russia at last.
On one hand, in 2004, with 27,500 students, China was responsible for the highest, compared to the figures from America at 20,000 students, Japan at 5,000 students and Russia was the least at under 1,000 students respectively. In three years (2004, 2005, 2007), the number of students from China was always higher than America. But in 2008, the American turned to the highest of all, and it was as twice as the Chinese at 27,500 students
On the other hand, students from Japan and Russia increased in the period shown. While the Japanese slightly went up 2 times to 10,000 students, the Russian expanded and peaked at 8,000 students in 2007, then sharply reduced to 4,000 people in 2008.
