Chinese applicants decreased steadily during the period, while Japanese students increased moderately, and people from Russia and America fluctuated.
In 2004, China had the highest number of applicants, which was 27500, this fell sharply by 6500 in 2005, while in the next two years, it maintained at 17500, but in the last year, it dropped again to 15000, becoming second with the highest number of applicants. America started the period with 20000 application forms, in the next year it went down by 5000 and then it grew gradually to 17500 in 2006, while in 2007 it decreased dramatically to 10000 and at the end of the period it jumped to 27500 overtaking China as the first ranked country.
Russia started the period with approximately 1000 applications, being in the last place, this increased by 1500 in the next year , in 2006 it climbed slightly to 3000, while in 2007 it rocketed rapidly to 8000, finally, in the last year it fell dramatically back to the amount that the country had in 2006.
