The bar chart illustrates the proportion of children across three distinct age groups (5-8, 9-11, and 12-15 years old) who participated in four different activities in a European country during the year 2009.
Overall, watching TV was the most popular leisure activity for the youngest children, whereas riding bikes was favored by the oldest age bracket. Additionally, reading comics maintained the most consistent participation rates across all three demographics, while playing video games generally became less popular as children grew older.
In terms of the most popular activities, watching TV attracted nearly 95% of children aged 5-8. This figure dropped slightly but remained high at 80% for both the 9-11 and 12-15 age groups. In contrast, riding bikes exhibited an upward trend with age; it was most popular among teenagers aged 12-15 at approximately 82%, compared to roughly 67% for the 5-8 group and about 61% for those aged 9-11.
Regarding the other pastimes, the percentage of children who read comics remained remarkably stable, hovering between 62% and 65% regardless of age. Conversely, playing video games showed a clear downward trend as age increased. About 60% of the youngest children (5-8 years old) played video games, followed by a minor drop to 58% in the middle age bracket, before decreasing significantly to 40% among the 12-15 group.
