In 1992, the rate of paper recycled was the highest rate at 25%, while the lowest rate of waste recycled was for plastic at 10%. However, the figures for cans and paper were about 19% and 17% respectively.
Between 1997 and 2002, the percentage of glass recycled surged from around 28% to 48% in 2002. The figures for paper also increased to approximately 38%, which was 10% more than last decade. The rate of cans recycled decreased to 12% in 1992 and was followed by significant growth in 2002 reaching 25%. The percentage of plastic recycled went up to 12% and then remained unchanged until the end of the period.
