The chart compare the proportion of individuals in the UK who appreciated to watch movies at home compared to cinema, in 1997 and 2021. Overall, the preference in UK of cinema slumped considerably over the time rather the sharp growth for home watcher.
The interest for the cinema decreased significantly during the analysed period. In particular, figures passed from the peak in 1997 roughly 75% to 37% in 2021. However, the lower level of the chart had not been the last one. Indeed, in 2015 happened the worst performance in movie watching.
In contrast, the appreciation of watching movie at home went up, hitting the peak in 2015, approximately 73%. It is crucial to highlight that in 2009 the values of both preferences were equalised, precisely 3%. Another key aspect, it is that since this year, never happened again an equalisation of the levels, never even that the cinema’s preference exceeded that of home.
