The pie charts provide information on the proportion of water consumption for three purposes in six different regions of the world, including industrial, agricultural, and domestic use. Generally, it is apparent that the majority of water usage in South America, Africa, Central Asia, and South East Asia is for agricultural activities. However, nearly half of water in North America and Europe is used for manufacturing.
In detail, it can be observed that over four-fifth of total water consumption in Central Asia, South East Asia, and Africa is consumed in agriculture, while the rest is used in industry and households, accounting for just under 20% of total usage. Similarly, the amount of water used in cultivation in South America is by far the largest proportion compared to other sections, at 71%.
Interestingly, North America and Europe show similar patterns of water distribution, with around half of water used for industrial purposes, one-thirds for agricultural fields, and 13-15% for individuals’ household activities.
