The pie graphs compare the amount of water used for three categories called industrial, agricultural and domestic use in six different continents in the world.
Overall, the use of water for agriculture took the lion’s share in most areas, except for North America and Europe. In addition, the least percentage of water goes to domestic use.
To begin with agricultural use, Central Asia becomes the most dominant region at 88%, followed by Africa with 84%, South East Asia with 81% and South American with 71%. By contrast, the agricultural water usage in both North America and Europe approximately halve the others, at 36%.
Turning to industrial use, while the areas, which use most water for agriculture, only spend 5% to 12% for industry, Europe and North America are in the first and second place, with 53% and 48% respectively. Furthermore, in terms of domestic use, just 19% of water is taken to the need of South Americans, followed by Europe with 15%, North American with 13% and Africa with 9%. The percentage of residential consumption in Central Asia and Africa is equal, at 7%.
