The chart below illustrates the percentage of water used for agriculture, domestic and industrial purpose in six different areas like North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia.
Overall, the majority of water was utilised for farming when compared with the different areas, followed by the industry and least was used for domestic needs.
Agricultural industry accounted as the largest consumer. Central Asia, being the largest water consumer at 88%, following by Africa. This trend was imitated both in South East Asia and South America ranging at 81% and 71% respectively. On the other hand, North America and Europe mainly used 48% and 53% for industry.
Domestic area was the least consumer of all six areas, where South America remained the highest at 19%. Similar rates of water consumption were maintained by Africa, Central Asia, South East Asia at around 7% and 15% for other three areas.
