In general, commuting to work was cited by the respondents as the main purpose of traveling. Another highlight is that the cost of travel remained the predominant challenge faced by the traffic participants.
Upon closer inspection, nearly half of the replies mentioned getting to the workplace as the primary purpose of traveling, a figure that almost doubled those who travel for private reasons. Following closely behind were 16% of respondents who traveled to do the shopping, while the proportion of travelers engaging in traffic for social/recreation and visiting loved ones also made up a total of 16%.
With regard to the problems associated with traveling, travel costs commanded the greatest share of 36%, being nearly two times higher than that of safety concerns. The figures for hostile drivers and expressway congestion accounted for 17% and 14%, respectively. When added up, the space for pedestrians and access to public transport constituted the same percentage of 14%.
