The stacked bar graph illustrates various Vietnamese beer brands’ market share during the years 2018 and 2023.
Overall, although the market share for each brand remarkably fluctuated, Sabeco and Heineken have consistently been the leading brands throughout the given period. While other brewers reported a fall in their profits over the years, except Carlsberg.
Sabeco and Heineken emerged as the giant brewers in the market, but they showed different patterns. Starting at the highest base of 42% initially, Sabeco’s share overtook that of Heineken by 8%, at 34%. Fast-forward to 2023, Sabeco’s dominance gradually decreased to 33.9%, losing its top spot. Heineken stood in stark contrast to its counterpart, managed to strengthen its market position, becoming the top beer brand (45%) in Vietnam in 2022, and maintaining a strong presence, despite representing a 2% reduction in the final year.
The shares of Habeco, Carlsberg, and other brands were relatively smaller. Both Habeco and other brands witnessed a downward trend in their profits, with the former’s share decreasing from 11.1% in 2018 to 7.5% in 2023, while a marginal decline to 6,4% belonged to the latter, a percentage points lower than the first year. This pattern was dissimilarly observed in Carlsberg’s market share, reaching a low of 5,5% in 2018 before rising to 9,2 % by the period’s conclusion.
