The bar charts show the proportion of participants aged 5-14 in cultural activities and sports in Australia in 2003. Overall, while boys participate more in sport and music, with sport standing out as the most popular activity regardless of the gender, the reverse was true for drama, dancing and singing.
Focusing on the activities where boys were more active, ranked first sport with boys participants far more than girls, 70 per cent compared to 50 per cent. Music was the second activity where boys were a slightly more active than girls, 15 per cent in comparison to 10 per cent.
In contrast, drama and singing exhibited a similar percentage of participants difference of 1 per cent, in both activities the proportion of girls were 5 per cent and boys were 4 per cent. The biggest gap between participants was in the activity dancing where the percentage of girls were 25 per cent, followed distantly by boys percentage which were approximately 2 per cent.
