The bar chart illustrates the percentage of the adult population engaged in various employment categories from 2003 to 2013.
Overall, business was the predominant sector in 2003, whereas self-employment became the leading category by 2013. While most sectors experienced significant shifts, the proportion of workers changed notably across almost all fields.
In detail, the business sector accounted for the highest proportion of workers at over 45% in 2003, before dropping significantly to approximately 27% in 2013. A similar downward trend was observed in the medical industry and unemployment rates, both of which halved – the former decreasing from nearly 20% to 10%, and the latter falling from approximately 10% to 5%.
In contrast, the percentage of self-employed adults tripled, rising from 10% to 30%. The hotel industry experienced a fourfold increase, growing from under 5% to approximately 19%. Similarly, the proportions for education and training, as well as the building sector, doubled over the decade, reaching roughly 18% and nearly 20% respectively.
