Overall, the main reason for phone usage remained social networks over the four years. Usage for social networks increased going forward except for 1 minor exception.
The two major reasons for phone usage remained social networks and email for all the years with one exception in 2019. Social networks accounted for half the usage while email accounted for a quarter in the year 2016. Phone utilization for email decreased over the years to about a fifth in 2019. Social networks saw an overall increase of 6 percent in 2019 compared to 2016.
The remaining two reasons accounted for an overall of a quarter of the phone usage. Usage of digital camera overtook email for the second largest percentage in 2019 with 20 percent. Phone calls observed the highest decline compared to other categories with its highest being 13 percent in 2017 and its lowest being 5 percent in 2019.
