The pie charts illustrate the final results of surveys in an African state questioning teenagers the major reasons for spending time on smartphones from 2016 to 2019.
Overall, the major reason for using mobiles by teenagers is social networks throughout all the years. Meanwhile, the least preference of spending time on phones was given to phone calls in all those years.
In 2016, 10% of teenagers used phones to make calls and it slightly grew to 13% in 2017, then it declined to 11% in 2018. However, in 2019 their proportion dropped sharply to 5%, the least of all these reasons in all years. In contrast, mostly teenagers used smartphones for social media networks as it was 50% in 2016 and it showed little fluctuation between 48% and 51% in 2017 and 2018, respectively. In 2019, it rose significantly to 56%.
On the other hand, in 2016 25% of teenagers spent time on emails and it declined to 20% in 2018. In 2019, teenagers 2016were using phones for Email was just 1% lower than the previous year . Moreover, the use of smartphones to make photos and videos increased over time as 15% in 2016 and kept at this rate in 2017. However, it gradually grew to 18% in 2018 and 20% in 2019.
