The pie chart illustrates the average proportions of three distinct categories of nutrients found in standard meals in the UK, such as, sodium, saturated fats and added sugar, which can be toxic if taken in excess amounts
Overall, it is recorded that the highest amount of sodium and saturated fat is consumed at dinner, whereas added sugar is mostly taken with snacks. It is also evident that breakfast contains the least amount of unhealthy nutrients.
Sodium accounts for 44% of total nutrients at dinner, followed by lunch, at 30%. Breakfast and snacks account for equal proportions of the sodium consumed (13%). Similarly, saturated fat comprises 34% at dinner and 26% at lunch, while breakfast and snacks constitute 18% and 22%, respectively.
By comparison, the majority of added sugar is absorbed during snacks, about 40%. Dinner and lunch are responsible for 24% and 20% added sugar, each. Lastly, breakfast contains the least amount of added sugar, i.e., 10%.
