The line graphs depict changes in the ownership of electrical appliances, namely washing machines, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners, as well as the time spent on housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.
Overall, while ownership of electrical appliances increased, the number of working hours per week in households decreased. Furthermore, washing machines, which were the dominant electrical appliances in 1920, became less common by the end of the period.
Firstly, the ownership percentage of both washing machines and vacuum cleaners was below 50% at the start of the period and gradually increased to nearly three-quarters by 1960. Then, the possession of vacuum cleaners surpassed the ownership of washing machines in 1960 and continued to grow until 2000, reaching its peak. Meanwhile, the percentage of washing machine owners remained relatively constant, although there was a small dip from 1960 to 1980. However, refrigerator ownership started from a low level in 1920 and sharply increased until 1980, reaching its highest value of 100%, remaining steady for the next 39 years.
