The given bar chart illustrates the increase in the citizens in five biggest cities in 1970, 1990 and 2010, including the population distribution in urban and countryside areas.
Overall, all five cities experienced a rose in population over a given period. Tokyo and Bombay showed a massive resurgence, and had the highest result. While Jakarta and Shanghai saw a moderate rose. In contrast, New York’s increase was slow.
Bombay’s population soared from 5 million in 1970 to around 27 million in 2010, which is represented the highest jump. Tokyo has grown from approximately 16 million up to 27 million, similarly to the Bombay. Jakarta in 1970 has the smallest number of population under 5 million, but then started to rise sharply and reached around 19 million by the end of given term.
On the other hand, New York and Shanghai during first two decades witnessed the same trend in marginally growth. New York’s population grew from around 14 million to 16 million in 1990, while Shanghai from approximately 12 million to 14 million at the same year. However, by the end of given period Shanghai overtook the New York, and soared to near 21 million. Whereas New York reached only 16 million.
