The pie charts illustrate the proportion of water consumption in three different sectors in six regions of the world.
Overall, agricultural purposes consume more water except in North America and Europe which industrial uses have greater proportion. However, consumption of domestic sector possesses the smallest segment.
53% of water uses in Europe occur in industry sector, followed by 48% in North America. The corresponding figures for South east Asia and South America are approximately equal, 12% and 10%, respectively, and that of Africa and Central Asia never exceeded 8%.
In comparison, the percentage of water consumption in agriculture in Central Asia is the highest, at 88%. The second-largest segment belongs to Africa, at 84%, and South east Asia’s is 81% which is 10% more than South America. Regarding North America and Europe, the numbers contained no more than 40%.
However, South America, Europe, and North America have 19%,15% , and 13% domestic consumption, on sequence. The amount of domestic water-consumed in three other countries are less than 10%.
