The charts compare the prices of gasoline and petrol in two states of the USA between 2005 and 2009, at one-year intervals.
Overall, in both states the price of gasoline topped the chart, and the prices of both fuels generally increased until 2008 before falling sharply in 2009. It is worth mentioning that the year 2008 experienced the highest prices, while the year 2009 recorded the lowest figures for both fuels.
Looking at the first State A, the price of gasoline stood at 0.80 US dollars per litre, after which there was a consistent increase until 2007, with the figure reaching 1.20 US dollars per litre. Despite skyrocketing to 1.40, a chart-high level, in 2008, that of gasoline almost halved to 0.75 in 2009. Petrol mirrored Gasoline’s decreasing trend, albeit at lower levels, dropping from 0.60 to 0.55. Interestingly, the difference between prices accounted for 0.20 US dollars throughout the period.
By contrast, starting at exactly 0.90 in 2005, the price of gasoline in State B grew significantly to 1.15 dollar. Although that of gasoline dwindled slightly to 1.10 dollars, the year 2008 witnessed a dramatic growth to 1.30 dollars. In 2009, the figure decreased enormously to 0.70 dollars. The price of petrol experienced fluctuations over the period, with the level undergoing a reduction from 0.70 to 0.50, the bottom level of the chart.
