Overall, what stands out from the pie charts is that largest percentages of total spending was food. Another interesting point is that the biggest change was relating to spending on housing,which rose dramatically over this decade.
If we look at 1958, food made up the largest percentage of the total at nearly one-third (32%), followed by housing with 22%. Clothing was slightly more popular than entertainment, with figures of 18% and 13%, respectively. Finally, slightly more spending entertainment than luxury goods, with the former being at 13% and the latter 7%.
Regarding the changes in 2008, spending on housing accounted for the highest percentage of nearly one-third (32%). While both travel/transport and luxury goods accounted for just 17%. Finally, the expenditure percentages for clothing food and entertainment were 16%, 12%, and 6% respectively.
