The pie charts illustrate the percentage distribution of film genres released in movie theatres in 2008 and 2012.

Overall, it is evident that, over time, different film genres experienced both increases and decreases in their proportions. Despite these changes, the overall distribution remained relatively balanced due to the diversity of genres.

Starting with the declining categories, by 2012, the proportion of action films underwent a significant decrease, falling to 23%. Nevertheless, it remained the most dominant genre among all categories. A similar trend can be observed in thriller films, whose share almost halved over the period, placing it second to last in 2012.

In contrast, several genres showed an upward trend. Approximately half of the categories experienced growth, including romance, drama, science fiction, and comedy. These genres increased by around 2-5% over the years, contributing to a more balanced overall distribution. By 2012, romance films had risen to 22%, making it the second-largest genre. Comedy also saw a notable increase, reaching 21%. Likewise, both science fiction and drama recorded modest growth of about 2% each.
