The charts compare how many minutes people from different age groups devoted to reading and listening in New Zealand.
Overall, in terms of reading, people in 55+ age bracket made up the highest figure among other people, while the numbers for people from 15 to 24 were the lowest. While the youngest group recorded the highest figure, people aged 35-44 accounted for the lowest. Of particular note is that people from 35-44 age bracket spent an equal amount of time on both activities.
The youngest age group spent about 20 minutes per day reading for pleasure, while for listening they recorded figures at 80 minutes per day. People in the age bracket 25-34 devoted about 60 minutes each day to listening, whereas for reading the numbers were considerably lower, standing at 35 minutes. A similar pattern can be seen for people between 35 and 44: 45 minutes were spent on each activity per day.
Reading was more popular among the senior generation, with those people aged 45-54 spending 50 minutes each day, compared with 60 minutes listening to music. In the oldest age group, reading reached a peak of 70 minutes per day, while the time for listening to music was still 5 minutes more.
