The bar charts illustrate data on power produced by the United States in 2009 and 2019 utilizing renewable and non-renewable resources. Units are measured in billion kilowatt-hour.
Overall, there has been a significant increase in the dependency of reusable sources in 2009 compared to 2019 although non-renewable dominate the entire decade. Natural gas and coal are the most used sources while geothermal accounts for the least.
From the graph, it is evident that three of the renewable sources listed namely renewables, natural gas, and nuclear have increased in their usage over the 10 years. Natural gas shows a considerable rise from 921 to 1582. The remaining two of the list namely petroleum and coal have shown a decrease in their utilization mainly due to environmental issues they cause. Petroleum shows a slight decrease by 3 while coal drops from 1756 to 966.
Considering the usage of renewable resources, wind energy and solar showcases a rapid rise from 94 to 300 and 1 to 75 respectively while Hydroelectric attains a plateau with a value of 273. There has been a tiny deviation in geothermal and plant or animal wastes that is made put in use for energy which accounts for 15 to 16 for geothermal while 54 to 58 for plant or animal matters.
