This diagram illustrares the process that a farmer goes through in order to grow a wheat crop. A lot of mechanical labour, farming equipment, and resources are needed for the successful planting of wheat.
The procedure begins in the autumn, more specifically September or October, where the farmer uses his equipment to prepare the field by ploughing it, and then spreading fertiliser which will help nourish the crops and aid in their growth.
Once the field is prepared by the end of autumn the farmer must ensure that the crops are not eaten by insects by adding insecticide – which is a chemical that kills any insects that might feed on the crops or compromise their growth. And then in the spring, when weeds are most prominent, the farmer will spray the crops with weedkiller in order to prevent the infestation of weeds.
By summertime, the wheat is now ready to be harvested using a machine specified for this task that will ensure it is completed efficiently, and then the crops are either sold or stored and the process repeats again ready for the next summer.
