The diagram illustrates differences between underwater tunnel and underground tunnel in a single city of Australia. Overall, underground tunnel is more longer then underwater one. Another interesting point is that underwater tunnel costed a lot while it was opposite for underwater one.
To begin with, the depth of the underwater tunnel is 25 metres while it was 35 metres in underground tunnel. The bridge connects two sides of the underwater tunnel, meanwhile road on the underground tunnel links between two edges of tunnel.
There is a difference in the capacity and length of both tunnels. The length of underwater tunnel is 2.2 kilometres while it was 3.6 kilometres for underground one. The number of vehicles for underground tunnel is 6 while it was slightly less in underwater tunnel which is 4.
The duration of construction of underground tunnel took 3 years while it took a bit longer for underwater tunnel which was 5 years. However, underwater tunnel was more cost effective than underground one with 556 million dollar and 1.1 billion dollar respectively.
