The diagram below provides the information about two road tunnels in one Australian town in 1987-1992 and 2004-2007.
Overall, it is evident that there were significant changes in structure of tunnels. Moreover, cross sections of tunnels became wider over the years.
To be more specific, tunnel A, that was built in 1987-1992, accounted 25 meters and 2.2 kilometers, and costed $556 million. Furthermore, cross section of tunnel contained only two cars. As for structure, there was a slice of stone and sand, and above it there was a river and bridge under the water.
In regard to tunnel B, that was built in 2004-2007, it accounted 35 meters and 3.6 kilometers, and it costed $1.1 billion. As for the most visible change, the structure did not have water and bridge. Instead, it had abundant amount of stone and sand, and above this structure, there was a road and diverse buildings, compared to tunnel A. In addition, twin tube became wider, that allowed to contain three vehicles. Thus, tunnel B larger and more lavish than tunnel A, due to modern technologies.
