A glance at the diagram provided compares how many parcels were delivered using two different mail organisations, namely Federal Express and TNT, between 1920 and 2000.
Overall, it is clear that both companies saw an upward trend. However, one mail service had a gradual rise, while another institution experienced considerable fluctuations.
Moving to a more detailed analysis, the TNT mail services’ figure stood at just above 5,000 delivered parcels in 1920, before it rose gradually over the next 40 years to reach a point somewhere in the vicinity of 12,000. This was followed by a slight decline, when the figure witnessed a rapid growth as it nearly doubled (from approximately 10,000 to about 22,000). At the end of the period, the number of delivered parcels had another increase to hit a high of little less than 25000.
Meanwhile, Federal Express delivered exactly 15,000 parcels, before the figured rose sharply to reach a peak of nearly 24,000 in 1940. However, this upward trend was suddenly broken by a dramatic decline over a ten-year period. After the slight decrease, when the figures of Federal Express stabilized at the same level as TNT in 1960. Over the next 20 years, the number of parcels delivered increased gradually. Finally, from 1980 to 2000, there was no change, with the number of delivered parcels remaining at about 18,000.
