The maps illustrate the changes that have occurred at West Park Secondary School in three different years – 1950, 1980, and 2010. Overall, it can be seen that throughout the years, the school’s main building and its playground were not improved at all, except for the latter’s size, which has been reduced. The other noticeable thing is the car park that was introduced in 1980, which expanded so much in 2010 that it took almost half of the total area.
In 1950, the land area was divided into four sections that were similar in size. The houses area is on the upright corner, the school area is on its right, the farmland area is on the bottom left, and the playground area is on the bottom right. However, in 1980, the houses area was replaced with a car park and a science block, which both took up half of its space. The farmland was also replaced with a sports field.
In 2010, the car park had been expanded, taking over the previous car park area and all of the sports field area. Meanwhile, the sports field was then moved to behind the school main building by reducing the playground size to only two-thirds of its original size.
