The diagram below shows how a water filter is used to produce clean drinking water. There are several steps from the beginning of the process to the end of the process.

The first step is to put the impure water into a metal container with a wood top. The metal container contains three filtration layers: sand, charcoal, and gravel. The top layer contains sand, while the bottom layer contains gravel.

The water that is filtered through these three layers is temporarily stored in the metal container.
