Given are the two maps depicting a particular area, Assford, in 1965 and the substantial modifications that have taken place over a 50-year period from 1965 to the present.
Overall, it is apparent that there have been many significant alterations which have completely improved the outlook of the city over the period examined. However, the river in the center of the city remained unchanged.
According to the 1965 map, before the modernization, the city’s current design was uncomplicated. In the top right-hand corner of the river, there were many houses. Also, there was a road across the river by ferry to connect a natural place in the top left-hand corner of the river with residents’ accommodation.
The second map clearly shows that modern amenities and conveniences have been added as a result of the modernization. While the houses have been expanded, many houses have been erected alongside the riverside to accommodate the population explosion. Furthermore, an apartment and a car park have been built in the north of the city as the same result. Also, some green trees have been felled to make space for building a car park. Additionally, the former road has been converted into a road bridge. A new foot bridge has also been constructed next to the road bridge to improve Assford’s transportation. In the south of the city other car parks have built next to the foot bridge.
