The diagrams below illustrate the life cycle of the silk worm and the stages in the production of silk cloth, respectively.
At the first stage, the moth lays some eggs. Then, after 10 days, the silkworm comes out of the eggs and feeds on mulberry leaves. When 4–6 weeks pass, the silkworm, called a larva, makes a silk thread around itself. After some days, from 3 to 8, the cocoon will become visible. Finally, 16 days later, the moth will emerge from the cocoon.
People can produce silk clothes from silk thread. First, some silk thread has to be selected. Then it will be boiled in water and unwound. After that, it will be twisted. And then, we have two options: First, after dyeing it will be woven, or after weaving it will be dyed.
To sum up, a silkworm passes through a process of becoming a moth. The silk thread that is made through this process can be collected and used in a process of producing a cloth.
